The 7th grade boys basketball team was crowned SBC north tournament champions last night at Western Brown High School after defeating Goshen in a thriller 31-30 in overtime!!!
After Goshen tied the game on a 3 pointer with 7 seconds left, the wildcats took the game back in OT. Leading the wildcat attack was Conner Applegate with 17 points, while Cody McCollister and Jacob Miller adding 5 each, and Ian Heeg and Walker McKibben both tossed in 2 each. The 7th grade wildcats finish their great season with a 12-2 record. - Coach Greve

The Blanchester 7th grade boys basketball team opened their season with a big win over Norwood 44-26. Leading the wildcats in scoring were Conner Applegate with 12, Walker McKibben had 11 points and 11 rebounds, Jacob Miller 8 points and 5 steals, Ian Heeg 6 pts., Cody McCollister 5 pts., Matthew Grogg 2 pts., and Dustin Howard also pulled down 6 rebounds.
The 7th grade boys basketball team raised it's record to 2-0 last Thursday. The wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead over Amelia before hanging on to a 37-29 victory. Leading the cats in scoring were Conner Applegate with 10, Cody McCollister added 9 points, 6 steals and 6 rebounds, Jacob Miller 7 points and 3 steals, Ian Heeg had 6 points and 5 assists, Walker McKibben with 4 points and 6 boards, and Dustin Howard added one free throw.

In their season opener the Blanchester 8th grade boys basketball team defeated Norwood 43-38. The Wildcats used an aggressive, high pressure defense to force 38 Indian turnovers. Eric Patton led the scoring attack with 14 points. Jordan Stroud nearly recorded a triple double, with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and a team high 9 steals. Justin Lucas chipped in with 8 points and 5 steals. Topher Farrow provided a huge lift off the bench, scoring 5 points, which included a momentum shifting three late in the 3rd quarter. Preston Griffin rounded out the scoring with 3 points and had a team high 8 rebounds. Patton had 7 rebounds and 6 steals. While the team struggled shooting from the floor (only 21%), they made up for it at the free throw line, going an impressive 16-24.
In their second game, a nearly six minute scoring drought midway through the 2nd half doomed the young Wildcats as they lost 29-27 to Amelia. Jordan Stroud led the team in scoring and rebounding, with 10 points and 5 boards. Eric Patton added 6 points and 5 steals. Wesley Mitchell scored 5 points. Brant Bandow, Preston Griffin, and Justin Lucas each chipped in with 2 points.

After a slow start, the young Wildcats exploded for 13 straight points in the final 1:30 of the 1st quarter to take a commanding 14-2 lead. Lane Heeg was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field and led the team with 13 points. Justin Lucas added 8 points and Jordan Stroud poured in 6 points. Nevan Coyle came off of the bench to spark the team to life with his defense and finished with 3 points. Eric Patton contributed 3 points and 5 steals. Rounding out the scoring were Brant Bandow, Justin Ballard, and Wesley Mitchell with 2 points each. Mitchell also had 7 steals. Topher Farrow had a team high 4 assists. The 7th boys basketball team played their best game of the season last by defeating Amelia 45-21. The wildcats controlled the game from start to finish as they raised their record to 7-1 on the season. 10 different players scored lead by Jacob Miller and Conner Applegate with 7 each, Cody McCollister with 6, Ian Heeg and Walker McKibben with 5 a piece, Cole Feirl, Matthew Grogg, and Dustin Howard all with 4, Quenton Morris with 2 and Chase Sturgill added a free throw. Walker McKibben and Conner Applegate each had 8 rebounds, Dustin Howard had 7 rebounds, and Cole Feirl had 4 steals. - Coach Greve

Despite outrebounding the Broncos by a 2-1 margin (34-17), the Wildcats could not overcome a season high 31 turnovers. Eric Patton had the hot scoring hand with a game high 19 points. Preston Griffin scored 10 points and grabbed a team high 8 rebounds. Also scoring were Jordan Stroud and Justin Lucas with 6 points, Brant Bandow with 5 points, and Wesley Mitchell with 3 points. Mitchell also had a team high 4 assists. The team heads into the Holiday Break with a record of 3-2.

Justin Lucas and Brant Bandow scored 9 points to lead the Wildcats. Eric Patton and Lane Heeg tossed in 7 points, Topher Farrow scored 5. Wesley Mitchell, Jordan Stroud, Preston Griffin, and Jake Fischer each scored 2 points. Lucas also had a team high 9 rebounds. Nevan Coyle had a team high 5 assists. With the win, the team improves their record to 3-1.

The boys travel to Mt. Orab tomorrow for their last game before Christmas break.
