BHS Sophomore Richardson first to compete in state gymnastics meet
2/25/14
Blanchester High School freshman Erika Richardson will compete in the uneven parallel bars in the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Gymnastics Championships Saturday at Hilliard Bradley High School.
Richardson is the first BHS athlete to compete in the OHSAA state gymnastics meet and is believed to be the first Clinton County girl to compete in the state meet as well. She will be one of 36 competitors in the state uneven bars competition.
Richardson, who is trained by Stacey Bailey at Anderson High School, competed in the Southwest District meet at Lakota East High School. There is only one division in gymnastics.
Richardson was sixth overall in the uneven parallel bars with an 8.4 total. A total of 107 girls competed in the district uneven bars. The top six in each event and the all-around competition advance to state from the districts.
In addition, Blanchester’s Megan Wolf competed in the district meet. She was 65th overall in the all-around events (28.125).
Richardson was 22nd in the all-around events competition (32.875).
