The Blanchester Lady Wildcats soccer team lost to Williamsburg by a score of 10-0 on Tuesday night in Williamsburg. Things started very poorly for the Wildcats as they conceded three goals in the opening five minutes. Unfortunately Blan did not find much respite, as WIlliamsburg cut through Blan time and time again for close range shots and rang up 9 goals in the first half. Throughout the difficult half, freshman Rylan Coyle and junior Luiza Ozeas put in gritty effort despite the difficult circumstances. Although displaying poor play in the first half, Blan opened up the second half with a renewed vigor and finally matched Williamsburg's intensity and settled into the game. Becca Kratzer nearly latched on to two separate through balls with just the keeper to beat, but collisions both times kept her from getting a final touch. Coyle continued her excellent game in the midfield and defenders Bri Haun and Emma Winemiller began playing with extreme confidence to limit the Burg attack to one deflected goal for the half as the only score in the frame. In goal Lacie Tedrick had 3 saves in the first half and Daelyn Staehling had one save. In the second half Alyssa Griffith had 6 saves.
"In the first half we were playing as separate individuals and paid the price. Once we finally began competing as a team and making the correct rotations we had success, but we continue to wait far too long into our games to rediscover this truth." - Coach Ballinger
