Overall we e played a pretty good game tonight and battled against an outstanding team. We got a strong outing from Rianna on the mound and played well defensively. We just had a letdown in the 5th inning and they scored 5 runs, which put us in a tough position going into the last 3 innings. Against a pitcher like Ogden, being down just 2 or 3 runs is whole lot different than being down 6. This was the final game for our 3 seniors, Kassidy Abney, Elecia Patton and Savanna Shank. They have had outstanding softball careers and have made this program better. I am grateful for their dedication and commitment to the softball program the last 4 years. They are fantastic young ladies and they will be missed.

Rianna pitched another solid game, only allowing 2 hits, which both came in the 5th and her 9 strikeouts is a season high. We did a nice job of putting balls in play and putting pressure on their defense and getting some timely hits to take advantage of their mistakes. Kassidy Abney had 2 more hits and 2 RBI tonight. Lana Roy also had a good night at the plate, showing some patience to draw 3 walks. Elecia Patton made 2 outstanding plays at short to take away what would have been hits. -Coach Grogg

We scored 4 runs in the first 2 innings, Bethel scored 1 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to cut it to 4-3 going into the 7th. We got an insurance run in the 7th when K. Abney drove in Patton with 2 outs, her 4th RBI of the game. Bethel had the tying run at first with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th and Rianna got the next 2 batters to pop out on the infield to end the game. After the way this season has gone at times, it’s nice to get that first win in the tournament. Rianna pitched a great game, she really did a nice job of working inside and outside tonight. Kassidy Abney led the way at the plate, going 3-4 with a double, 4 RBI and a run scored. Elecia Patton has to hits and scored twice, Zoie Stanforth also had 2 hits.

I have to give Zoie Stanforth a lot of credit for the way she battled on the mound tonight. Williamsburg is a good hitting team, and they showed that tonight, but we also didn’t help ourselves on the defensive side of the game. Kassidy Abney had another good night at the plate, collecting 2 hits, including her 16th career homerun. Maggie Caldwell also continued to swing a good bat, going 2 for 3. After the game we honored our seniors who played the last regular season home game of their careers. Savanna Shank, Elecia Patton and Kassidy Abney have done so much to help improve our softball program over the last 4 years. There is a reason the Lakota East is one of the top ranked Div. 1 teams in the state. But, I thought we played a pretty good game against them. You just can’t give a team that hits the way they do extra outs and we did that in the first two innings, as only 2 of their first 7 runs were earned. Rianna did a good job on the mound and we played error free defense the last 4 innings, so I was pleased with how we responded after falling behind 7-0. Madison Creager had 2 hits and 3 RBI, Kassidy Abney had 2 hits, including a double and scored 2 runs, and Maggie Caldwell had 2 hits a scored a run to lead us offensively. -Coach Grogg

As we have done most of the season, we battled to the end, and this time we came away with the win, scoring 7 runs in the last two innings. After Savanna Shank scored on a wild pitch, Kassidy Abney had a big 2 out, 2 RBI double in the 6th, to cut their lead to 1. Madison Creager got things started in the 7th with a hit, Rianna Mueller then worked a walk, Lana Roy followed with an infield hit. Savanna Shank was then hit by a pitch which scored Creager. Kelsey Naylor then scored on a wild pitch. After Patton lined out to third, Maggie Caldwell had an RBI single and Abney followed that with a sac fly to center. Zoie and Rianna both did an outstanding job on the mound tonight and Savanna Shank had another fantastic game in centerfield. Lana Roy- 4 hits; Kassidy Abney- 3 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI; and Noelani Tangonan- 2-3, led the way offensively. I have to give Wilmington a lot of credit for the way they hit the ball and put pressure on our defense the entire game. That being said, Emma and Zoie gave us a solid effort on the mound, we just we didn’t help ourselves any on defense. But, good teams take advantage of other team’s mistakes and Wilmington did that today. Offensively, Madison Creage hit her 5th homerun of the season. All I can ever ask the girls to do is give their best effort and give us a chance to win a ball game and they did that tonight. Unfortunately, we came up short tonight. We were up 4-0 after 2, but lost the lead in the 3rd when Felicity scored 5 runs. They added a run in the 4th, but we scored one in our half of the 4th. We tied the game in the 6th when Elecia Patton stole 3rd and scored on a throwing error. We then loaded the bases in the 7th with 1 out, but could not get the hit we needed to drive in the winning run. Felicity then scored 3 in the 8th.

Game 1: We put ourselves in a tough position just like we did at Georgetown, giving up 5 unearned runs on 3 errors in the 1st inning. Emma Case pitched well in her first varsity start, but we just didn’t do enough in the field or at the plate.
Game 2: I was really pleased with how we bounced back after our effort in the first game. We took a 7 run lead into the bottom of the 6th. After Marissa Jacobs scored on Kelsey Naylor’s fielder’s choice, Elecia Patton cleared the bases with a 2 out, 3 RBI triple. Kassidy Abney drew a walk and then Madison Creager followed with her 4th homerun of the season; a 3 run shot. But to their credit, Ross made adjustments at the plate and had 9 of their 12 hits in their half of the 6th inning, scoring 9 run and taking a two run lead. Zoie Stanforth pitched well in game 2, but Ross just did everything right at the plate in the 6th. Besides Patton, Maggie Caldwell also had 2 hits in game 2. -Coach Grogg

Zoie pitched a good game, especially the last 4 innings as she only gave up 5 hits and 4 runs. Kassidy Abney led us offensively, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Marissa Jacobs had a double and also scored. -Coach Grogg

Against a team like Williamsburg, the margin for error is very slim. We had a few defensive miscues in the 4 th inning and just like that, we were down 8-0. Despite not getting any hits, I was pleased with our approach at the plate tonight. We were more disciplined than we had been in our last two games and we battled against the top pitcher in our division. Elecia Patton had a great game defensively in center field, taking away several would be hits.

This was by far our best offensive performance of the season. Madison Creager got things started with her 3 run homer in the first, which was huge. When playing on the road, it is crucial to score early, to gain the momentum from the start. We added another run when Kelsey Naylor scored on a throwing error. We then added 6 more runs in the 2 nd , which start with a solo home run from Kassidy Abney, which was the 15 th of her career and is a new school record for career home runs. Rianna Mueller also had a great day at the plate, going 4 for 4, with 2 doubles. Zoie Stanforth also had 2 hits. We also executed the short game extremely well, getting several bunts down, which put some pressure on their
defense early. In the circle, Rianna Mueller had another strong outing, giving up 11 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5. East Clinton did a nice job of putting the ball in play, but Rianna came up with big pitches in critical moments to get an out. More impressively, this is the second game in a row where she did not walk a batter. - Coach Grogg

It is nice to get that first win. Rianna pitched a great game, scattering 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6. She really had command of her pitches tonight and kept the CNE hitters off balance throughout the game. Defensively, we played well, but still have some things to clean up. Offensively, the girls did a great job with the short game, getting bunts down to move or to score runners. Kassidy Abney led us in hitting, going 3-5 with a triple, 2 RBI and scoring 3 runs. Another game against a tough opponent, we came up a little short, but our effort continues to get better each game we play, so, despite the outcome, I was really pleased with how we played tonight. We lost a heartbreaker in game 1, when Tomlin from Eastern Brown hit a 2 run walk off home run with 2 out in the bottom of the 7th. That is a tough way to start a season. But, overall I was happy with our effort in this game. Zoie pitched a solid game, only giving up 1 hit through 4 innings. To their credit, Eastern did not stop battling and their bats came alive in the 6th and 7th. At the plate, Madison Creager led the way going 2-3, including her first career home run; she also had 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. After losing the 1st game the way we did, things did not get any easier, as we faced an outstanding Western Brown team, led by one of the best pitchers in southwest Ohio, Sydney Barnes. Despite the 7-0 loss, I was so proud of our effort and the way we battled after suffering such a tough loss in the first game. Rianna Mueller pitched a great game, keeping the Western Brown hitters off balance for much of the game. Madison Creager had our lone hit with 2 out in the 7th to break up a no hitter. Savanna Shank in centerfield and Lana Roy in right field played extremely well on the day, taking away several hits in both games. Elecia Patton made several great plays at shortstop, especially against Western Brown and Kassidy Abney played well behind the plate, throwing out a runner trying to steal 2nd in each game. -Coach Grogg
