The tennis season came to a close today at the sectional tournament.
The Wildcats played well, but did not have anyone advance to the Districts.
All of today's players are underclassmen and will be returning next season.

5/7/18 - Tennis @ Batavia
We finished the regular season today(Massie cancelled tomorrow's match) with a 2-3 loss to Batavia. Jacob Miller lost to Brett Moles 2-6, 6-7(4), Hunter Miller defeated Jake Paulin 6-0, 6-3. Brian Miller defeated Bryce Zenni 6-1, 6-3. Cody McCollister and Clayton Schirmer lost to Ethan Berger and Nate Watson 2-6, 1-6. Ian Heeg and Tanner Kellerman lost to Jax Gibson and Cody Paulin 3-6, 3-6. We are now 11-6 overall and still 9-1 in the league. We are heading to the sectionals Thursday at the Linder Tennis Center. -Coach Shepard

5/2/18 - Tennis @ Wilmington SBAAC National Division Championship
The Wildcats won the league tournament Wednesday at Wilmington High School, which allowed them to claim the overall league title in the process.
“Fabulous effort throughout the season to be both Felicity and Bethel-Tate twice,” BHS coach Scott Shepard said. “It’s been quite a few years since we did that.”
East Clinton finished fourth in the tournament and in the overall standings. The top finish on Wednesday for the Astros came at third singles where Jake Howard was the runnerup in a three-set thriller.
For Blanchester, Hunter Miller won the third singles championship while the doubles team of Tanner Kellerman and Ian Heeg were the second double champions.
The Wildcats had a four-point lead overall Felicity going into the tournament but Shepard believed his squad still had to perform well in order to win the overall crown.
“After doing so well in the regular season, it would have been easy to letdown and finish lower but still winning or tying for league. The whole team led the way today. We had some great victories and heartbreak losses but the team came through in a three-way titanic struggle.”
Shepard was happy with the win and the way the tournament itself unfolded.
“Many thanks to the other team and coaches, and Steve Reed and Doug Cooper for hosting an awesome tournament,” Shepard said.

Jordan Stroud and Cody McCollister lost to Isaiah Weeks and Graham Wick 4-6, 3-6. Ian Heeg and Tanner Kellerman defeated Ian Lowe and Austin Olindick. We are now 7-1 in the league and 9-4 overall. We have seen significant improvement in 3rd singles and both doubles teams. 2nd doubles obviously came through with the victory today, but now we've improved to the point we can rely on a victory in all 5 spots if necessary.

Jacob Miller took his game to the next level today defeating an incredibly talented player relatively easily after a slow start and Hunter and Brian continued their strong steady play, while the doubles teams continued to improve their game.

Hunter played a fantastic match against a quality opponent. Then Brian Miller came through overcoming a tough first set loss to winning the next two to put us in the position of possibly winning the match. Then his brother Jacob Miller overcame a tough 1st set loss in a tiebreak to win another tough set in a tie break to take it to a 3rd set and thankfully secured our victory with a 6-4 3rd set victory.
