2/16/19 - Ladycats SECTIONAL tournament game @ Wilmington vs. Bethel Tate
Blanchester 2 10 11 14 37
Bethel Tate 16 6 9 11 42
Bethel Tate was able to hold off Blanchester Saturday morning in Division 3 girls basketball 42-37.
Despite being down 16-2 after the first quarter, Blanchester didn't back down. We came out really slow and hesitant offensively. We weren't moving or getting anything going. Luckily the girls responded well once they settled in a little.
Bethel Tate scored 4 of the next 6 points to take a 20-4 lead early in the second quarter but Blanchester was able to begin chipping away by outscoring Bethel Tate 8-2 the remainder of the quarter and go into halftime down 22-12 with a bit of moment.
In the 3rd, Blanchester was able to get the lead down to 6 before Bethel went on another run and put it back to a 15 point lead for Bethel.
The girls never quit. Being down 16 early, working it back to 6 and then getting back down by 15, most teams wouldve thrown in the towel there but our girls continued fighting and clawing.
Elecia Patton caught fire from 3 in the 4th quarter hitting 4 of them to give Blanchester some hope. They were able to get back to within 5 but time ran out.
It wouldve been interesting to see what wouldve transpired had we had a little more time. We had a lot of momentum and made a few things happen defensively. Unfortunately we dug too big a whole earlier on and weren't able to dig ourselves out.
The effort is a testament to the mentality of this team. We didnt have the best season in terms of wins and losses but these girls are competitors and constantly give their best effort. I'm incredibly proud of these girls and especially the precedent that has been set by our 3 amazing seniors who are of the absolute best character.
Elecia Patton led all scorers with 24 points. Olivia Gundler added 6 and Holly Scott chipped in 3. - Coach Pyle

Blanchester 2 14 12 11 39
North Adams 18 11 20 16 65
Blanchester lost a non league game Monday night against North Adams by a score of 65-39.
A lopsided first quarter gave North Adams a big lead that they would not relinquish despite a second quarter comeback attempt by Blanchester. Blanchester was able to get the deficit back to 8 but that's all the closer they would get.
Blanchester had 9 girls on the scoresheet led by Elecia Patton with 16. Olivia Gundler added 6 points to go along with 6 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks.
I've been stressing to the girls that we need players to step up and want to score. The last two games there has been a more concerted effort from the whole team to look to make plays as scorers and they've responded well to that challenge. - Coach Pyle

The Ladycats of Blanchester dropped another game Monday night to the Broncos of Western Brown, 57-44.
Western Brown had a 9 point lead going into half after scoring a last second bucket on a Blanchester turnover.
I think that bucket really took some wind out of our sails. The first half was very back and forth and pretty even despite Western Brown having a 7 point lead at that point.

Blanchester 9 7 8 16 40
East Clinton 9 12 15 18 54
Blanchester dropped their second straight game Monday night at East Clinton 54-40.
Despite Blanchester jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead, turnovers and missed open shots allowed East Clinton back into the game and enabled them to work back to a 9-9 tie after the first quarter.
Both teams came out flat tonight and we had an opportunity to put the game in our hands early after jumping out 7-0 but little mistakes, 13 turnovers in the first quarter and missed open shots are a recipe for disaster and that's how you let a team right back in it.
Blanchester made a few runs in the second half to try to comeback from their deficit but never really got all that close thanks to some timely shots by East Clinton.
The game's leading scorer was Elecia Patton with 21. East Clinton got contributions by quite a few players but were paced by Mackenzie Campbell and Lacey Peterman with 15 and 12 respectively. -Coach Pyle

CNE 17 6 11 14 48
BLAN 19 8 7 12 46
Blanchester dropped a tight contest 48-46 to SBAAC foe CNE on Thursday night.
With 2:30 left in the game and down 46-40, and Blanchester's leading scorer, Olivia Gundler having fouled out it looked like CNE would come out victorious easily. However, a 6-0 Blanchester run turned that around quickly when Elecia Patton hit a 3, made a free throw and got a steal and a layup to tie the game up at 46 with 1:30 left.
After both teams got a possession and failed to score, CNE got a transition basket with just two seconds left by Natalie Bockman.
Olivia Gundler led all scorers with 18 points despite being in foul trouble much of the game. She also had 4 steals and 6 blocks. Elecia Patton had 16 points to go along with 5 steals and Lana Roy scored 8 points paired with her 8 rebounds.
I thought the girls played incredibly tough tonight. They could've folded when they got down by 6 late but they responded and tied it back up. That's the type of attitude these girls have. It's never ending effort and hustle. I cant say enough about how proud I am of their effort. Unfortunately, we just came out on the wrong side of it and then happens sometimes in close games. -Coach Pyle

You can't win games having that many turnovers. It's as simple as that. Ball security has to be a priority of ours for the rest of the season. If we can limit turnovers to around 10 a game, we will be competitive moving forward. Credit to Georgetown for applying the pressure they did.
The game was close until about the final minute when the score was 53-49. Georgetown scored the last 9 points of the game many of which came from the free throw line.

Georgetown had a trio of players in double figures led by Kim Seigla (17), Madi Benjamin (15) and Torie Utter (11).
The story of the night was turnovers. Blanchester had 35 turnovers in the game.
Blanchester will try to get back on track Saturday when they go to Goshen. -Coach Pyle

Blanchester 13 13 17 11 54
Batavia 14 11 15 5 45
The Blanchester Wildcats girls' basketball team started their season out with a victory by defeating Batavia Monday night by the score of 54-45. Blanchester was led by Elecia Patton with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Lilly Brown, in her first varsity start, scored 14 and had 7 rebounds. Olivia Gundler had 8 for Blanchester.
As a team we shot 15-22 from the free throw line. Games are a lot easier when you take advantage of free points. We have been stressing free throw shooting in practice and have a team goal of shooting 60%. So far we are off to a good start in that regard.
After trailing Batavia by a point after the first quarter, it became the Lilly Brown show for Blanchester. Brown scored all of her 14 points in the second and third quarters. She ran the court very well and finished the good looks she got. She also provided some stability on the defensive boards by giving us more of a post presence. Her contribution to the game tonight cant go overlooked.
