After 3 straight road games and nights of getting home late, I wasn’t sure how we would play tonight. But, the girls kept their focus and came ready to play. Maddie scattered 5 hits over 6 innings to pick up the victory and the defense was solid behind her. At the plate, Jay Dalton had a three hit night with 3 RBI. Shelby Rose also had two hits, including her first career home run, and 2 RBI. Kassidy Abney also had two hits with two RBI. This win put us at 8-2 in the league and allowed us to finish alone in 2nd place behind undefeated Williamsburg. -Coach Grogg

The energy and effort was much better tonight compared to when we played Williamsburg last Friday. We just made a few mistakes that cost us a few runs and it is a big difference being down 1 or 2, instead of being down 4 to a team as good as Williamsburg is. I was pleased with the way the girls battled in the batter’s box all game against two of the better pitchers we will see this year. Shayla Sicurella made some nice adjustments and had two hits, including a double and Kassidy Abney did a nice job of staying back on a change-up and had an RBI double. Tonight’s game was about the little things making all the difference. If Shelbie doesn’t get her bunt down in the 2 nd to move Dakota to 3 rd , then Dakota isn’t able to score on the passed ball. In the 3 rd ,Elecia reached base on a single, stole 2 nd and scored on Kassidy’s double. It isn’t always about how many hits you have, but when you have them. Maddie pitched an outstanding game and the defense backed her up to hold CNE to only one run. This is our first one-run game of the season and I was pleased with how the girls responded to the pressure of having to make our lead hold up for 5 consecutive innings. -Coach Grogg

After Saturday’s games, I really wasn’t sure what to expect tonight and I have to say, I was very pleased with how the girls responded. Offensively, we bunted well and hit well. Kassidy Abney provided the power with 2 home runs and 5 other girls had multiple hits. When the short game is working, it just opens up so many other opportunities. Defensively, we were solid, once again making the routine plays consistently. Also, Rebekah Fordyce made a great running catch in foul territory right up against the fence. Abney scored on a wild pitch in the 3 rd
Dalton scored on Demitt’s RBI bunt single in the 5 th , we had the safety squeeze on and Dakota put down a perfect bunt that the defense was not able to make a play on.

(batter hit a foul ball that bounced out of Abney’s glove and Mann dove and caught the ball before it could hit the ground). I got to give Hannah a lot of credit for not giving up on the play and being in the right place at the right time. Elecia Patton also made a great play at short, after diving for a ball that took one bounce into her glove, Elecia, while lying on the ground, flipped the ball over her head to Shayla at 2 nd base to get a force out.
