Blanchester beat New Richmond 30-28 in the SBAAC crossover game Saturday night.
Scoring was hard to come by for both teams early on as the score was 11-6 at halftime with a Blanchester advantage. The tempo picked up a little bit in the second half as Blanchester extended their lead to 24-12.
In the 4th quarter, New Richmond battled back but it was too little, too late.

1/29/18 - HS girls bkb HOME vs. Bethel Tate
Bethel Tate hit six three pointers and scored 24 points in the 3rd quarter Monday night to propel them to a 46-41 victory over Blanchester in girls high school basketball.
Blanchester led 20-15 at halftime on the backs of Dakota Watters and Regan Ostermeier who accounted for 16 of Blan's 20 first half points. Watters finished the game as the Ladycats high scorer with 20 points. Ostermeier finished with 10.
We played great defensively minus a few times where we didn't contest three point shots. Good shooting teams like Bethel Tate will make you pay for not contesting those shots. We made an adjustment to better contest the shots, but they just kept hitting them. It's tough enough to defend one hot shooter, but they had 3 girls hit three point shots in that 3rd quarter. That's tough to overcome.
The fourth quarter was playing catchup for the Ladycats after falling behind 39-31 from the 24 point third quarter shooting barrage from Bethel Tate.
I have to give it to my seniors. They have scrapped and clawed their way to the success they've found over their 4 years in our program. That's exactly what they did tonight. We made a little run late and got to within three which shows the battle these girls have demonstrated so consistently through their careers.
I'm incredibly proud of the way we have been playing. We are playing our best basketball of the season right now and lost a close game to a very quality team tonight who is now 16-2 on the season. -Coach B Pyle
Blanchester girls JV team lost again Bethel-Tate 8 to 23. Noelani Tangonan led the team with 3 points. With only playing two quarters this game, I was proud of the girls for making adjustments to their game since last week's games. At the end of the first quarter we were down by 2 points but we struggled defensively in the second quarter and Bethel-Tate pulled ahead. - Coach E Pyle

1/25/18 - HS Ladycats bkb @ East Clinton
The Blanchester Ladycats varsity basketball team (7-9) beat East Clinton in an SBAAC league game Thursday night at East Clinton, 46-41.
The win tonight was a great team effort. East Clinton is a very well rounded team and have some really skilled girls. I give credit to our girls tonight for playing their hearts out after we dropped a disappointing one the night before to Fayetteville.
Blanchester was led by Patton who had 19 points and both Ostermeier and Watters added 8.
I think the real difference in the game tonight was our effort on the boards. We pulled in 45 rebounds (13 offensive) in the game and limited second chance opportunities which killed us the first time we played East Clinton. I give a ton of credit to the girls for battling for rebounds and loose balls. Asia Baldwin grabbed 7 rebounds, Watters and Ostermeier grabbed 10 and 9 respectively and both Patton and Savanna Shank added 5 rebounds a piece as well. - Coach B Pyle

1/24/18 - HS girls bkb @ Fayetteville
Blanchester (6-9) lost a high school girls varsity basketball game Wednesday night to Fayetteville by a score of 51-42. Despite a strong first half shooting effort, Blanchester wasn't able to sustain that offensive success in the second half and couldn't keep pace with a better balanced Fayetteville attack.
Fayetteville scored 13 if their 19 second half points from the free throw line while Blanchester shot 2 for 12 from the line in the second half.
Our poor shooting from the free throw line has been a continuing theme all season. We have left a lot of points out on the floor by not being able to convert, often times after strong plays and good looks that get the opposing team out of position.
Blanchester was led by Elecia Patton who had 25 points, 21 of which came in the first half. Olivia Gundler added 8. Margo Thompson was a force underneath for Fayetteville scoring 18, 16 of which came in the first half. -Coach B Pyle
Blanchester girls JV team lost against Fayetteville 23 to 37. Holly Scott led the team with 10 points and Lana contributed 7. Fayetteville played hard against us and fought for every possession. Blanchester struggled the first half and got too far behind. The second half things finally started clicking for us with how to attack and the girls started to compete. We just have to put two halves of the game together. - Coach E Pyle

1/22/18 - HS girls bkb HOME vs. North Adams
The Blanchester Ladycats varsity basketball team lost a well fought battle against North Adams Monday night at home 52-38.
Blanchester struggled early against the press which put them behind early 15-7 after 1 quarter. At half, it was 24-11. I was proud of the way the girls executed the adjustments we made during halftime. We came out and got a couple of good looks by attacking the press a little more aggressively and we tried to make some runs but North Adams did a nice job responding each time. We were slow getting back on some of our makes and they took advantage of that.
Blanchester was led offensively by Asia Baldwin and Elecia Patton who both had 11 points. Baldwin also had 6 boards and 4 assists while Patton added 4 steals. Olivia Gundler added 8 points. -Coach B Pyle

1/18/18 - HS girls bkb HOME vs. CNE
The Blanchester Ladycats varsity basketball team beat Clermont Northeastern Thursday night 40-28.
Blanchester was lead offensively by Elecia Patton who registered 20 points, but it was a solid defensive effort and protecting the ball against CNE's 2-2-1 press that helped Blanchester come out on top.
We've been working on limiting dribble penetration in practice and our girls did a great job doing that tonight. We made CNE work for most of their shots and did a nice job moving our feet and being in the right places.
Olivia Gundler filled the stat sheet with 4 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals and 6 blocks. Regan Ostermeier had 6 points and 7 rebounds, while Asia Baldwin added 5 points, 9 boards, 3 steals and a pair of blocks.
We are learning how to play smarter as a defensive unit and not take unnecessary risks and chances but instead choosing opportune times to make things happen. We have girls on the team who are very unselfish and do the overlooked jobs that dont appear on the stat sheet but help you win. Savanna Shank, Hayley Wilson and Shelbie Rose provided a lot of minutes tonight of fundamentally sound basketball and they are a large reason for our success tonight. -Coach B Pyle

1/11/18 - HS girls basketball HOME vs. Georgetown
Blanchester 5-7 (3-4)
The Blanchester Ladycats varsity basketball team won a nail biter 47-46 against Georgetown Thursday night. Elecia Patton hit the go ahead layup off of a steal with 16 seconds left in regulation. That shot ended up being the game winner.
Patton had 15 points including a big three pointers with just over a minute remaining to give the Wildcats a 45-43 lead. Georgetown got a basket from Emilee Thomas (10 points) to tie the game at 45 and then got a free throw from Kennedy Underwood (10 points) to take a 46-45 lead. On Blanchester's next possession a missed shot and Georgetown rebound seemed to put Blanchester in a situation to foul but Patton came up with the steal and hit the game winner.
It was a great response to the last couple losses. We had a game against Hillsboro that came down to the exact same situation and they hit a shot at the buzzer to win it. I think that prepared us for the situation we were in tonight and this time we came out on top.
We have been emphasizing the little details all season and tonight our girls did a great job in doing the little things right. To win tight ones like that, you have to do those things right. I'm proud of the girls for the adjustments they continue to make and for trusting the process. We are getting better daily.

1/4/18 - Ladycats basketball HOME vs. Williamsburg
Blanchester 4-7 (2-4)
The Blanchester Ladycats varsity basketball team lost 67-32 against undefeated Williamsburg in SBAAC action Thursday night.
Despite a competitive first quarter (15-10), Blanchester failed to score in the second quarter and dug a hole against Willamsburg.
I was incredibly proud of the way we battled defensively in the first half. Holding a team as talented as Williamsburg to 29 points in a half is a win in my book. It's just unfortunate we couldn't respond offensively. We have to take away the successes that we did have and continue to build on them. If we play that way defensively the rest of the way, we will win our share of games down the stretch.
Offensively, Blanchester was led by Elecia Patton (16 points) and Regan Ostermeier (8 points). -Coach B Pyle

12/28/17 - Ladycats HOME vs. Hillsboro
Blanchester 4-6 (2-3)
The Blanchester Girls Varsity basketball team lost a heartbreaker 51-50 Thursday night at home to Hillsboro on a last second shot by Hillsboro's Delanie Eakins who was the game's leading scorer with 18 points.
Blanchester was down 28-18 at halftime but put in a great defensive effort in the 3rd quarter in which they held Hillsboro to only 4 points. At the end of the 3rd, Blanchester had a 2 point lead, 34-32.
A back and forth 4th quarter led to a 50-49 Blanchester lead with 7 seconds left in regulation. That's what Eakins hit the game winner as time expired.
Our girls played our best all around game of the season tonight. Outside of a few communication issues, our girls played fundamentally on the defensive end and did a good job on the offensive end attacking the basket and finding the open man.
Elecia Patton scored 17 points for the Ladycats despite sitting much of the 2nd quarter in foul trouble. Olivia Gundler and Regan Ostermeier added 8 a piece and Asia Baldwin had 7. Gundler added 8 blocks, 3 steals, and 3 assists.
We let one slip through our fingers tonight. We haven't played very much this season with a small lead late in games and I take the blame for not having the girls more prepared for that situation. It's a tough way to lose but I'm incredibly proud of the way the girls played tonight and how they made the proper adjustments in game that we have been working on in practice. To battle back from a 10 points halftime deficit speaks to the character of this team. Hillsboro is a good team and we put ourselves in a position to win. 12/18/17 - HS girls bkb HOME vs. Western Brown
Blanchester lost a tough game against Western Brown Monday night 45-37.
Blanchester held a 26-18 lead at the half but was held to just 1 point in the 3rd quarter.
We can't have stretches where we lose composure on offense. We have to be patient and trust our movement on offense and look for the good shot. Too many times we try to force something that isn't there when there is another easier option.
We've gotten ourselves into foul trouble a few times early in some games. Elecia Patton and Olivia Gundler both had 3 before the end of the first half tonight and we have to play a little more tentatively on defense to avoid fouling. Unfortunately, when we do that, we don't get as many turnovers defensively and don't get the easy transition buckets we rely on.

The Ladycats of Blanchester lost a tough fought battle against the Astros of East Clinton on Monday night, 57-47.East Clinton had a balanced attack offensively with four players in double digits in scoring. Paige Lilly led all scorers with 17.
Blanchester was led by Dakota Watters (10 points), Asia Baldwin (9 points) and Olivia Gundler (9 points). Baldwin filled the stat sheet with 12 rebounds (8 offensive), 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Gundler had 4 blocks and Watters added 10 rebounds.
There were times throughout the game where we were to passive. We passed up opportunities to push the ball in transition at times which really hurt us. The stretches during the game where we attacked in transition, we had some really nice runs but it was too inconsistent at times.
East Clinton jumped out to an early lead and we battled back often with little runs of offense, but each time we got close, East Clinton responded really well. They move the ball well within their offense and don't make a lot of mistakes. They stayed composed when we pressured and always seemed to have a big bucket when they needed.
Overall, I thought once we got through the initial part of the game, our defense played pretty well. If we don't spot them 11 points early, it's probably a different game down the stretch.
We can't have stretches where we go quiet and sit back. We have to keep the pressure up and look to use our athleticism to create opportunities and we just didn't do that quite enough tonight. -coach B Pyle

12/4/17 - Ladycats basketball HOME vs. Felicity
Blanchester scored 21 points in both the 1st and 4th quarter en route to a 66-44 victory over Felicity Thursday night in Blanchester.
Elecia Patton led all scorers with 21 points and had 5 steals while Olivia Gundler added 14 to go along with 4 assists and 6 steals. Asia Baldwin had 6 points with her 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and Dakota Watters scored 8 and had 8 rebounds.
We gave them some trouble early on with some defensive pressure and were able to get 4 or 5 baskets in a quick span. I give Felicity a ton of credit for battling back and responding numerous times.
We had a lead of 18 points at one point in the second quarter and I was hoping to get some subs in early, but everytime we extended our lead, Felicity would make a little run of their own that would keep the game close. I give them a ton of credit and Kylie Sponcil really shot the ball well for them (she had 15 points).
We gave up a lot of second chance opportunities and allowed them to hang around in the first three quarters. We need to clean that up if we want a chance to compete for a league title. -Coach B Pyle

Our girls have showed what they are capable of defensively over the first 8 quarters this season. I'm proud of their individual efforts on the defensive end, but what has impressed me most is their ability to help each other and work through opposing screens.
Offensively, we need to continue attacking the basket and playing inside out. 17 points in a quarter is nice to see, but we need to continue to protect the ball and be more consistent on the offensive end.
Playing at Georgetown is always tough. The atmosphere they create is stressful for opposing teams that come in there and anytime you can walk away with a win there, you have to be happy. Their team was incredibly gritty and battled hard and I told our girls before the game to expect that. Our girls matched that intensity and we were fortunate to get an early lead and maintain it despite a great Georgetown effort. - Coach B Pyle

I thought our defensive effort was outstanding. Asia Baldwin and Elecia Patton were tenacious on the Mehlman sisters who are really good players holding them to 11 points combined.
We really struggled offensively in the half court against Batavia's 1-3-1 in the second quarter, but made a small adjustment at halftime that allowed us to get some good looks. I was really proud of the way our girls attacked the basket throughout the game. I think that, and our solid defensive effort are what allowed us to pull ahead and win. -Coach B Pyle
