Offensively, Hannah Mann had 3 hits with 2RBI. Maddie had 2 hits with 2 RBI, Florea and Dalton had two hits and an RBI and Elecia Patton had a 2 out double that drove in 2 runs. This was the kind of game I like to see leading up to the tournament, we had a big lead and they mounted an impressive come back, but we stayed focused and made the plays we needed to get the win. -Coach Grogg
4/30/16 - Varsity Baseball vs Eastern Brown Won 11-5 (game 2 cancelled - didn't even start) Next game Tuesday at Home vs Washington Courthouse 5:00 Record: 12-4 (8-2)
Abney: 1-4, dbl, 3 RBI Curless: 1-3, HR, RBI, 1 run Mann: 2-3, dbl, 1 run Greene: 1-3, K, 1 run Demitt: 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 run
Monday night we had a lot of hits and tonight we had big hits when it mattered. Dakota Demitt had a big hit in the 2nd to drive in 2 runs and Kassidy Abney had a bases clearing double in the 4th to drive in 3 runs. Hannah Mann also had two hits and scored a run. Defensively, we played our second straight error free game and made some big plays to end several CNE scoring threats. Maddie scattered 7 hits over 7 innings and really battled through some tough situations as CNE did a nice job of putting the bat on the ball or being patient and drawing a walk. But, in the end we made the plays we needed to and got the win. -Coach Grogg
This was probably the most complete game we have played all year. Offensively, we hit early and we hit often. We had 5 extra base hits and 18 total for the game and everyone who started the game had at least one hit. After we struggled some at the plate Saturday, it was nice to see us make some adjustments tonight. Rachael Doyle had a big night going 3-4 with a triple, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Elecia Patton also had 3 hits and Kassidy Abney continued to hit the ball well, collecting 2 hits, including her second home run of the season. Savana Greene, Hannah Mann, and Dakota Demitt also had 2 hit each. Maddie Curless pitched one of her best games, scattering 6 hits over 5 innings and the defense played error free ball behind her. -Coach Grogg
When you play a team like McAuley, you cannot afford to give them extra outs, and we did that too many times in this game. Overall, I was pleased with our offensive effort. Several girls had lengthy at bats as they fouled off pitches to extend their at bat and then either ended up getting a hit or getting walked. Kassidy Abney had another good game at the plate, going 3-3 with a triple and a double and 2 runs scored. Hannah Mann also had 2 hits and Shelbie Rose had a hit with 2 RBI. -Coach Grogg
What I liked most about tonight’s game was the way we battled back after giving up 4 runs in the 3rd inning. We came right in and immediately scored 3 runs ourselves to tie the game up, which never gave them a chance to gain any momentum. After giving up 4 hits and a walk in the 3rd, Maddie settled down and, backed up by error free defense, pitched shut-out ball the rest of the way. Maddie, Savana, and Kassidy led the offense with 2 hits each and Hannah Mann added a double and 3 RBIs. Defensively, Shayla Sicurella had a solid game at 2nd base.
Record 4-5 (3-2) -Coach Grogg
4/6/16 - Softball vs. GTown I liked our aggressiveness at the plate tonight. We stepped in the batter’s box ready to swing and we attacked the ball. But, we were also patient and did not chase too many pitches out of the strike zone. And, I liked that many of our outs were productive outs that either advanced runners or drove in a run. Elecia Patton, Maddie Curless, Kassidy Abney, and Dakota Demitt all had two hits and we also got production from every other girl in the lineup tonight. Maddie pitched another solid game and the defense was much more focused tonight. -Coach Grogg
4/1/16 - Softball vs. Williamsburg This was one of those games where we did not play poorly, Williamsburg just played better. We faced one of the best pitchers we will see all year and she got the better of us tonight. I was pleased with our effort and the fact that we battled the whole game. Patton: 1-3, dbl, K Greene: 1-3, dbl, K, 1 run Abney: 1-2, RBI, walk
Scott: stolen base
3/30/16 - Softball vs. CNE After struggling to get hits with runners in scoring position on Tuesday, we did the complete opposite tonight, especially in the 5th when we scored all 7 runs with 2 outs. We put together another solid defensive performance behind Maddie’s outstanding effort on the mound. Dakota Demitt came up with a nice running catch in center and Jay Dalton and Elecia Patton also made several nice plays. Offensively, several girls had multiple hits and drove in runs. -Coach Grogg
3/29/16 - Softball vs. Felicity This game just came down to timely hitting. Both pitchers threw well and both teams played solid defense. They just came up with a hit in the first inning to drive in a run. We threatened a few times, but just couldn’t come up with the timely hit at the right moment.
3/26/16 - Softball Game One - Lost 2-1 Curless hit a solo home run in the 6th to put us up 1-0. Western Brown scored the winning run with a 2 out hit in the bottom of the 7th. We played a solid game defensively behind an outstanding performance by Maddie on the mound.
Game Two - Lost 9-4 This game was the complete opposite from Game 1 defensively. It was nice to see the bats come to life on offense but, we lost our focus in the middle innings and committed some errors that cost us a few runs. However, Jay Dalton and Hannah Mann each made some outstanding defensive plays that saved us few runs. Maddie had another good game at the plate, going 3-4 with a 3 run homer and 3 RBI. Elecia, Shayla, Hannah, and Dakota had two hits each. You never like to drop two games in one day, but overall I was pleased with how we competed on Saturday. Western Brown is one of the top teams in the SBC American Division and in the SW District and we battled them to the end in each game. -Coach Grogg
