SENIOR NIGHT
When the weather is at its worst, Blanchester seems to be at its best. Playing in its third poor weather game in four weeks, Blanchester cruised to a 44-14 victory over Bethel-Tate in the season finale for both teams. In the last four weeks, Blanchester has beaten Goshen, Clermont Northeastern and now Bethel-Tate in rain and wind. Blan outscored those three teams 138-27.
On this senior night, a senior wide receiver stole the show. Taylor Greene helped start the Blanchester scoring by pulling in a 54-yard touchdown pass from fellow senior Seth Runyon. Blanchester led 6-0. With Blanchester leading 26-14 just before the half, Runyon looked for Greene again on a second and eight from the Bethel 27. The defender cut in front of Greene who was diving in the endzone. The ball went off the defenders hands and Greene pulled it in, on his back, as he controlled the ball just before his helmet went out of bounds.
It was a highlight-reel catch, and it seemed to cement the outcome of the game. Blanchester led 32-14 at the half and never looked back.
Greene (166 total yards, 3 TDs) was far from the only outstanding senior for the Blanchester offense. Runyon rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 111 yards and two more.
Derek Barger rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown. Chase Denham had 70 total yards.

Wildcats lost chance for share of league title. Batavia Bulldogs defeated Blanchester on senior night, 21-20.
With the victory, Batavia (6-3, 4-0) clinched the outright Southern Buckeye Conference National Division title. Blanchester falls to 3-6, 2-2 in the SBC-N.

Blanchester would pull within a single point in the third when Conan Nicely scored from 10 yards out. Tristan Greene’s two-point conversion – the first successful Blan PAT of the night – pulled the Wildcats within 21-20.
With just under six minutes left, it was the Greene to Greene connection again as Tristan found Taylor down to the Batavia 30. Again, the play was nullified for holding. Blanchester would have to punt.
With 2:19 left, Seth Runyon picked off KeShawn Foley in the end zone, giving Blanchester one final chance. Tristan found Taylor – this time it counted – as the Greene to Greene connection moved the ball to the 41. Runyon then threw a halfback pass to Conan Nicely to the Batavia 45. However, two big losses and an incompletion set up fourth and 24, which Blanchester was unable to convert. In addition to Runyon’s interception, he also blocked a punt which set up Nicely’s third quarter touchdown. He finished with 76 total yards and two touchdowns. Taylor Greene also had a big interception, as he wrestled the ball away from a defender that stopped another Batavia drive at the two. Nicely led the Blanchester running attack with 95 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.

Justin Vostad’s interception return early in the third quarter propelled Waynesville to a 38-20 win over Blanchester Friday night in a non-league game.
“I thought our kids played really hard but that interception return to start the second half really put us in a bad spot,” BHS coach Jack O’Rourke said. “It changed the whole complexion of the game. We just have to do a better job overall.”
The Wildcats didn’t roll over, though, getting a 44-yardscoring pass from Seth Runyon to Chase Denham at the 5:49 mark. Runyon passed to Conan Nicely for the two-point conversion to make it 24-14. The TD pass was Runyon’s second of the game. The first came with 1:46 to play in the first half to Taylor Greene, who made a leaping grab on the 27-yard pass play.
